Visual identity design: give your brand a strong face

Your visual identity is much more than a logo. It is the first language
between your brand and your audience.
Before you have said a word, your colours, your typography
and your graphic mark have already communicated something.

The question is:

is it the right message?

As a freelance art director based in Biarritz, France, I work with music labels, artists and businesses
that want a visual identity design that is consistent, memorable and strategic, not just aesthetic.

What a complete visual identity includes

A solid visual identity rests on several complementary elements.
Together, they form a consistent graphic system that works across all your materials.

LOGO

The logo is the heart of your identity. It must be readable at 16 px and at 2 metres, in colour and in black and white.
I create logos designed to last, not to follow a trend that will be out of date in 18 months.

COLOUR PALETTE

Colours are not a detail. They trigger emotions, create recognition and instantly set your brand apart.
Together we define a primary and secondary palette, with the exact codes (HEX, RGB, CMYK, Pantone), so that your identity can be reproduced anywhere.

TYPOGRAPHY

The choice of typefaces says as much about a brand as its colours.
A poorly chosen typeface creates instant dissonance.
When it is right, it strengthens every word you write. I select and pair typefaces that match your positioning and make you identifiable.

BRAND GUIDELINES

Brand guidelines are the bible of your identity.

They document all the rules for using your visual elements.
Whether your team, a printer or another supplier is working on your materials, the result stays consistent.

APPLICATIONS AND ROLL-OUT

A visual identity does not live in a PDF.
It lives on your album covers, your social media, your website, your flyers and your merchandise. I think about the applications from the start, to avoid unpleasant surprises during production.

Why a strong visual identity changes everything

Many brands underestimate the impact of a carefully crafted visual identity.
Yet a consistent identity strengthens brand recognition.
Here is what that means for you in practice.

YOU ARE INSTANTLY RECOGNISABLE

In a crowded Instagram feed, on a record shop shelf, on a billboard or on a menu, your visual has to stop the eye.
A strong identity creates that reflex of instant recognition.

YOU INSPIRE TRUST

A professional, consistent visual signals seriousness and control. It also legitimises your pricing: it is hard to justify a certain price with amateur visuals.

YOU SAVE TIME

With clear brand guidelines, every new piece of work goes faster. You no longer have to start from scratch or wonder which colour or typeface to use.

YOU ATTRACT THE RIGHT PEOPLE

A well-designed visual identity speaks directly to your target audience.
It filters naturally and saves you time.

My approach: strategy before aesthetics

I do not start by opening Illustrator. I start by understanding.

1. AUDIT AND DISCOVERY

First, we take stock of your brand:
who you are, who you are talking to, what sets you apart and what no longer works.
This includes an analysis of your positioning and your competitive environment.

2. ART DIRECTION

Based on this analysis, I develop one or more art directions.
Each direction is a coherent proposal, not a collection of random ideas.
You choose the direction that resonates most with your vision.

3. CREATION AND ITERATION

I create the elements of your visual identity over several rounds of revisions. Your feedback is built into every stage. We then approve each element together before moving on to the next.

4. DELIVERY

You receive all your files in the formats suited to each use (print, web, social media), along with your complete brand guidelines.
I also make sure you can use these files on your own.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a complete visual identity take?

Allow 2 to 4 weeks in general, depending on the complexity of the project and how quickly we can exchange.
I also offer fast-track options for projects with tight deadlines.

Yes, that is possible, depending on your project and how far your identity has progressed. I always recommend going at least as far as the colour palette and typography, so that your logo can be used consistently.

Most of my projects are carried out remotely, including with clients in Paris, Lisbon and Los Angeles. We communicate by email, video call and file-sharing tools. The result is the same as working face to face.

You receive the source files (AI, EPS, SVG) as well as ready-to-use exports (PNG, JPG, PDF). Your identity belongs entirely to you.
