Regarded as one of the most distinctive arrangers on the French music scene, Christophe Dal Sasso is a composer whose work spans jazz and the classical repertoire, from big bands to symphonic orchestrations. For Spirit of 3, it brings together eight musicians from the world music scene,
jazz and Latin American music, and presents a project that blends Mediterranean, African and Indian rhythms.
Joining him is Shekinah Rodz, an American-Puerto Rican singer and multi-instrumentalist trained in classical, jazz and gospel saxophone. After building her career in Puerto Rico and Atlanta and touring with Grammy winners, she settled in Europe to perform at jazz festivals across the continent.
It was for this collaboration that I took charge of the artistic direction for the album cover, with the primary aim of creating a visual interpretation of a project that defies categorisation :
profound and festive, rooted yet nomadic.
It was for this collaboration that I developed the artistic direction for the album cover, starting by listening to the album and following a simple instruction from Christophe Dal Sasso: to come up with something personal, born of my own feelings.
Spirit of 3 carries powerful symbolism. I sought to make this visible. The triangle, a shape with three vertices that embodies the tension between stability and movement, became the central theme: three graphic interpretations, three typefaces, three colours. A carefully crafted palette designed to capture the essence of the music: both the intimacy of jazz and the energy of live performances – something warm, deep and open.
